General Information
On this page you will find all of the information about how I blog, what I read, and what you can expect. These are guidelines that will hopefully make things easier and clearer; however if you have any questions feel free to contact me. I also reserve the right to alter these guidelines at any time.
Purpose Of This Site
This site is used exclusively as a place for me to write my opinions about books I’ve read, books I want to read, and general bookishness. Occasionally I write about non-book related aspects of my life.
What I Read
If you’ve taken a wander around my site, you’ve probably realized that my reading habits are very eclectic. I’ll pretty much read anything that catches my eye, but the genres that I am particularly interested in are:
- Contemporary Fiction
- Young Adult Fiction
- Horror Fiction or Non-Fiction
- Anything Zombie related
- Paranormal Romance
- Apocalyptic or Dystopian Fiction
- Short Story Collections or Anthologies
- Women’s Fiction
- Graphic Novels
- Biography or Autobiography or Memoir
- Non-Fiction (depending on topic)
- Fantasy or Dark Fantasy
- True Crime
- Animal Books
What I Don’t Read
The following genres are the ones I read little to none of:
- Romance
- Historical Romance
- Western
- Science Fiction
- Travel
- Cook Books
- Children’s Picture Books
- Early Readers
- Middle Grade
- Drama or Poetry
- Sports Books
- Political
- Fitness
Exceptions
Occasionally I will read a book from the Don’t Read list, that is likely because it involves a particular subject that does interest me. So if you have a book that you think fits my style then feel free to mention it, but I give no guarantee that I will accept.
Formats Accepted For Review
Currently I will only be accepting physical books (ARC’s, galleys, finished copy, etc.) for review. I will also accept audio books for review. Until I can obtain an e-reader I will not be accepting PDF’s or e-books.
How I Review
My reviews don’t follow any particular structure, they are purely my thoughts. I do not have a rating system for my reviews, as I find it too difficult to grade a book. Instead within my review I offer my opinion of the positive and negative (if any).
By accepting to review a book, I do not guarantee that the book will receive a positive review. I do guarantee that the review will be truthful and contain my honest opinion.
My reviews can by positive, negative, or middle of the road, depending on how I felt about the book. But I will never intentionally or cruelly trash a book or an author.
Review Scheduling
Unless I’ve agreed to a specific date beforehand, I try to post reviews in a timely manner. Being a moody reader I will put off certain books if I feel that reading it at a particular time will unfairly bias me towards the book (kind of like with food, in that sometimes you just don’t feel like eating a food you love). Also I have a family with two teenagers, so sometimes life gets in the way.
Review Content
Aside from the actual review component, my posts will also include the details of the book (Format, ISBX, Pages, Author, Publisher, Date, Genre), photo of the book, about the author blurb, link to author website, and links to other reviews of the title.
Within my reviews the book synopsis and author blurbs come directly from the book jacket. It is sometimes considered lazy to do this, however I much prefer to offer the official publicity information, and also my reviews usually always provide a general overview in my own words. Another reason I do it this way is that I’ve personally encountered a few reviewer written synopses that contain spoilers, and I would hate to inadvertently ruin a key point for possible readers.
Other Content
I am open to the possibility of hosting author guest posts, guest reviews, buddy reviews, and giveaways. I’m also open to reviewing other products that are book-related or fit into another aspect of my lifestyle.
