Writing up this post made me see just how badly behind I am on writing reviews. Too much reading and not enough writing. But now that school’s out the daily pace around our home has calmed down quite a bit, so that should help out. The last two weeks of June I just had a complete burnout. But now I’m back on track (thank god cause the laundry pile has never been so ginormous!)
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords.
Well, it seems that June was not a very interesting search word month. Most of the searches from June were for reviews, essays, comparisons and reading analysis (no idea how on earth to pluralize that one!) Here are a couple that made me giggle or shake my head in wonder.
♦ Pam Anderson Getting Wrinkles ♦ What did you really think she wasn’t human? Or still at least 25% non-plastic ingredients :P Check out this picture of Pamela that was posted on JustJared last year! She’s not getting wrinkles, she’s got them!
♦ How To Shape-Shift Into A Housecat ♦ Okay, if I knew how to do that I would be a housecat right now. My cat lives a life of luxury, eating when she wants, sleeping wherever and whenever she wants a nap, only allowing attention when she decides to be friendly. That’s the life!
♦ You May Be A Zombie But I Am A Magical Unicorn Queen ♦ LMAO! This is awesome, cause I thought all the magic unicorn royals were dead. My pet zombie is gonna be having a magically delicious snack now.
♦ Zombie Smiley Face Pictures ♦ I’m pretty sure that pic of Pammy counts, but in case you want a smiling zombie that’s not falling apart, here’s a pretty pin-up.
Don’t forget to check out my post about Neil Gaiman Graphic Novels for your chance to win an Official Coraline Bookmark! Comment before July 11 to win.
I’ve had quite a few people ask me about where I got the graphic I use above for my reading recaps, and I’m terrible for replying to comments (sorry) so anyways I thought I’d answer here. I used PaintShop to create the blank library card and then each month I open it in Paint and add the new text. If anyone would like the blank graphic here is the link to where I’ve saved it on Flickr.
Looks like I’ve read quite a bit this month, but it’s not like I’m overworking my reader skills considering I am enjoying lots of graphic novels (over half my reads in May) But then again, some of the comics I’ve been looking at recently have stories that are just as (if not more) entertaining than some full-length literary novels.
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords.
Taking a look at the searches that led people to my blog during May made it quite clear that school is wrapping up and people are trying to catch up on those pesky final assignments. When will these horribly, lazy little cheats realize how much easier it would be if they just read the frickin’ books themselves! I’m hoping everyone who uses the internet to find free essays gets a big fat F – sorry for the rant but that just makes me cranky :x
So here are some not-suckbag-cheat searches from May:
“American Psycho Quotables” – My quotable post on American Psycho is here but I’m telling you read this book and you will find an abundance of amazing quotables.
“Are Wolves Teeth Sharper Than Sharks Teeth” – Not entirely positive, but I think I heard something at the Boston Aquarium about sharks having teeth that are sharper than any land-mammal. Something to do with the jagged shape perhaps.
“A-Z Book Challenge” – This year’s A-Z challenge is hosted by Becky of Becky’s Book Reviews and the challenge has it’s own website which can be found right here. Which reminds me that I am horribly behind on updating my challenge progress :P
“Bibliophilism Disease” – Wow, I honestly don’t know if this is a real disease, but the word Bibliophile and the term Bibliophilism has been around since 1824. It’s definition is: a lover of books, specifically for qualities of format.
“Book Recommendation For Teens” – Young Adult and teen reads are a guilty pleasure of mine, but because I have 2 teen boys who read adult fiction, I'm not all that familiar with what’s happening in that area. So I have a couple of blogs I follow that focus a lot more on YA, have spectacular reviews and that I highly recommend ♦ Pop Culture Junkie ♦ Presenting Lenore ♦ The Story Siren ♦ There are tons more out there that I read, but these are the three that I always check out.
“Man Who Can Suck His Own Cox Contortionist” – You know what really made me laugh about this search? That the person searching knew how to spell contortionist properly but not the word before it. See kids this is why you should do your own schoolwork – do you really want to be like this guy or girl? :P
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords. Again this month I have had some great keywords leading people to my blog. Maybe it’s just me being a geek again but this is probably the most fun thing about using Google Analytics, I don’t even check out the other stats like visits, page views etc. I just really have a good time looking through the list of keywords :)
"Suki and Raimi" – This was my absolute favorite search ever! Suki and Raimi are my dogs who I love to death, so seeing that someone actually google searched their names made me feel so happy and slightly proud also – I mean really, what are the odds of those two names being searched for together :P
"What happens if a Lhasa Apso eats 2+ mini Reeses?” – Well Suki is a Lhasa and he eats peanut butter quite a bit with no side effects, however chocolate is poisonous to dogs! A small amount can make a dog throw-up or develop diarrhea. Larger amounts of chocolate can be fatal, so you must contact a veterinarian if your dog has eaten a lot or you are unsure of how much they’ve gotten into. My vet told me that for a 10-20 pound dog, 2-3 normal candy bars can kill. It all depends on your dogs body weight and the amount of cocoa. Also different types of cocoa products contain different levels of poison – just 2 small squares of bakers chocolate can kill a 20 pound dog. Please if you have dogs keep the cocoa products in a place that they cannot get into it.
“Young Hunter Thompson” – It’s probably no secret that Hunter S Thompson is one of my favorite writers, authors, journalists, personalities. I’ve been reading Gonzo recently which is just one of the many biographies that can be found about his life. Most of the books about him focus on his life after he left the military and began writing. Here’s an interesting CBC clip from 1977, when Hunter was 39 years old – not exactly young, but still one of the earliest videos to be found.
“Canadian Zombies” – Zombies in Canada?! That would be cool. And the first thing I’d be doing is logging onto ZombieTools and buying myself a couple of their awesome looking weapons for defeating the undead. I’m particularly fond of their d’Capitan model.
Not too bad, I’m definitely doing well with the reading side of things. But still pretty crap at the reviewing, although March has been crazy what with the kids home from school. During the past month I did manage to catch up on some of the books I’ve been meaning to post about bringing my reviews done to 29 out of 55! These are the previously read books I’ve reviewed in March
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords. Here’s some of the search terms which led people to my blog in the month of March. Not many interesting ones this time, it seemed like most of the searches lately have been about getting book analysis and summaries, lots of book report searches – makes me breathe a sigh of relief that my own kids enjoy reading and don’t have to search the internet to do their homework – if these kids can’t read a book for jr high school, how are they ever going to make it through University? Anyways, that’s a rant for another day :P
“book of negros” + “different title” – Not sure if I mentioned it in my review or not, but The Book Of Negroes is known as Someone Knows My Name in the US market. Lawrence Hill addresses the name change in this article.
“sparkly vampires must die” – Mwaaahhhaaahhhaaa \m/
“people who constantly whine about the weather” – I live in Nova Scotia, you’d whine too.
“holding readathons” – There’s a readathon coming up on April 18, check it out here.
“morocco, pirates, embroidery” – Sounds like you’re looking for Jane Johnson’s book The Tenth Giftaka Crossed Bones.
“name the 16 characters of The Westing House” – Had about 25 searches for this question. You’d probably have more luck using the books correct title The Westing Game and try Wikipedia, it has answers to questions you never even knew you even asking.
“haunted harbours chapters/indigo” – Sweet book! Haunted Harbours was written by a local author known as Steve Vernon. Check out his website to find out whether he’s doing any appearances. He was at last years Word On The Street event, I wanted to get my book signed, but yeah I was too shy :)
“how to get passed the crypt in god of war” – Sorry, no idea. I so want this game though!
“naked sex lolcat” – That’s so wrong dude! I will however take advantage of any opportunity for lolcat fun, so here’s some sex/nudity related kittehz!
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords. Lots and lots of strange words brought people here this month. Here are some that I can help with, some that are cool and some that are just plain dumb. The very last one is my very, very favourite and caused me to spend so much wasted time googling ultra-adorable pics. (mind you my idea of cute is a little weird)
"shhh..i'm reading twilight" - "sparkly vampire book" - "vampires are not sparkly" - "you said what about sparkly vampires" I said Sparkly Vampires ... Bleechh!
“a full list of bentley little books” You can find one right here.
“how many pages does the book the declaration by malley have” The copy I read has 320.
“was roald dahl always a arthur” Umm I’m pretty sure he’s always been Roald :P
“why r plastic bottles unreturnable in connecticut”Google… it does wonders for the mind.
“he choked on a” On a what? Search terms like this drive me mad!
“adapting we have always lived in the castle to movie” That would be the coolest of cool.
“uplifting zombie book” All zombie books are uplifting, and magical and wonderful. Much bettter than kittens and butterflies and rainbows. Go Team Zombie!!
“vomen end dog porno” - “anemal sex extremm und danch töten” Ugghh I don’t even know what those mean and they’re gross.
“zombi lolcatz” Ohh now why didn’t I think of searching for that. Zombies and LOLcat the ultimate combo of cool-cute :D
I’m quite pleased with my reading progress so far this year, I’ve relaxed a bit and ignored the fact that my TBR is glaringly over-populated. Taking my time with my reading has improved my enjoyment of the books I’m reading, even if I feel something slightly annoying I can search out the positives, which makes me happy. Adding some graphic novels and young adult into the mix has also helped me to avoid my normal winter blues reading slump.
After taking a look at my stats this month I have found four things I would like to work on in the coming months:
Writing a review as soon as I finish a book – this will help me avoid a review back-up and help re-stock my bank of review posts.
I really need to add some more non-fiction in, it’s not like I don’t have lots on my shelves waiting.
Each month I would like to read at least 3 books from the horror/dark fantasy/fantasy genre. This type of book has always been my comfort read and I’ve neglected it lately.
Weird. Strange. Unusual. Keywords. I find these keywords posts highly amusing, so I thought I would start highlighting some of the more bizarre things that have led people to my site. This is my first time, I’m not nearly as witty as most of you and my sense of humour has always been a little on the dark side. So here are the ones that made me lol.
"screwed up life of charlie" – No idea who Charlie is, or why he’s screwed but how weird is it that a search term ended up causing me to add a book to my TBR mountain :P
“Oryx And Crake – Endings” – Not to be bitchy but, just read the damn book.
"Bentley Little retiring ?” – OMG I sure hope not!
“New Years gangbang Kentville” – Wow, and here I always thought Kentville was such a pleasant little town.
“Are they making a movie about the book th1rteen r3asons why by jay asher ?” – I don’t know, but I think it’s an awesome idea and I would love to watch it.
“negative review opinion the shack” ✔ “negative reviews on the shack” ✔ “negative reviews to the shack" ✔ “the shack by william young negative reviews” ✔ “the shack did not like” ✔ Plus many, many more. I hated this book, but now I’m wondering if it’s the same person doing all this searching :0
”the shack tricked me” – Yes, yes it did – the cover synopsis for this book is about as fake as those gorgeous girls you see on the front of X-rated movies. What’s really inside is more than likely to burn your retina.
“what's the plural of series” – I have no idea, most of the time I just pop a ‘ at the end.
“Where do i find the book coraline in crawford county” - Well you could try the library it’s on Plum Street in Michigan. Twelfth Street in Arkansas and McCrary Street in Georgia.
“zombies porno photos” – of for the love of god, there must be 800 hits on my site for this phrase and as much as I love zombies, this is just gross people. Why aren’t you all checking out coroner’s websites or something? Is there really a market for this? Oh who am I kidding, of course there must be.
“Circle of zombies masturbating” – LMAO, ewww, seriously who searches for these things?
“zombie woman porn” – Okay, okay here you go ----------------------->
30/yo who enjoys reading (perhaps too much), I've usually got at least 5 books going at anytime. I've just completed taking some English and Sociology University upgrading courses, and I am in the process of obtaining a Library and Research Tech certificate.
I read constantly and I have been known to read instruction manuals, cereal boxes and the YellowPages if I am without a book.
