The Sunday Salon - Autumn Storms & Creepy Reads

Sunday Salon

Tropical Storm Hanna lost most of her oomph while traveling towards New England, but anyone who lives in Atlantic Canada knows these storms love to give us a taste. As I hibernate inside from the gusting winds and erratic rain, I feel slightly guilty because of all the people effected by the ferocity of Autumn weather. Our small ocean province was nearly incapacitated by Hurricane Juan in 2003 followed 5 months later by White Juan. It was terrifying and changed my outlook on just how much the weather can alter lives. My thoughts right now are with all the people around the world dealing with and fighting to survive 2008's horrible weather. However it is reassuring to hear in the news of how the world is banding together to offer support to the people of Haiti.

ripthree200 With terrifying Autumn weather comes the knowledge that Halloween is just around the corner. To help celebrate my favourite holiday I'm taking part in the R.eading I.n P.eril III Challenge hosted by Stainless Steel Drippings. For this challenge I am currently reading Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived In The Castle and John Connolly's The Book Of Lost Things. I am nearly finished with both, and will have reviews up this week (hopefully)

weekly geeks 3 One of my favourite blogging events is the Weekly Geeks that is hosted by Dewey. This week's Geek activity is truly original and looks like it will be a blast. All the Weekly Geeks are being partnered up in order to interview one another on a book they haven't gotten around to reviewing yet. My partner for this is Maree from Just Add Books. So be sure to check out both our blogs later on this week to see how our interviews go. And here is a list of all the other Weekly Geeks participating so far!

Last but not least, make sure you take a trip over to My Friend Amy and cast your votes for the BBAW Awards. The list of finalists with links to view their sites can be found here and the Voting Booth is here.

This year's hurricane season has been a bear.
Did I Expect Angels is *terrible*. I'm not sure I can finish it! :-(

I think I’ll be reading We Have Always Lived in the Castle for the RIP III Challenge, too – I’ve intended to read it for years, but somehow just never got around to it. Glad you didn’t get too much damage from Hanna – we got a full day of rain from it yesterday, but nothing really awful. It certainly was good stay-home-and-read weather, though!

I can't wait to see your review of The Book of Lost Things. I've got a John Connolly book on my RIP list and I hope I can get to it.

This weekly geeks sounds so fun. I'm afraid I'm kind of busy this week so I won't be able to participate but I'll be reading the interviews!

I'd love-love to join that RIP III this time around, but I've over done it with challenges. Maybe next time...I hope there will be a next time!
