Booking Through Thursday – Un cadeau pour moi ?!

Booking Through Thursday

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

Being a book-lover from a huge family of bookish people, receiving a gift card to a bookshop is one of the most common things we buy for one another. Trying to guess or remember which books, which person wants, needs, already has would be an impossible feat. So the handy little gift cards have always been the most popular presents for my entire family, especially for the children, as having that shiny little credit card makes them feel so special on the next book shopping excursion.

So most definitely, gift cards are my favourite presents to receive and give.

However, my wonderful hubs has on two occasions given me book gifts that really meant a lot to me. Both times were completely unexpected and completely perfect, my hubs isn’t much of a reader himself, but his gifts showed that he knows me and he cares about my addiction to reading and how important books are in my life. His understanding means so much to me.

The first was a few years back after my closest book-minded friend lent me a copy of book 1 in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. Once I had finished reading it, my friend and I spent hours on the phone gabbing and giggling like teenaged girls about this book, while the hubs sat rolling his eyes at my childish behaviour. But then a few days later he arrived home with a bag, a big bag, which he plopped into my lap “for me?” I asked with a huge grin. Feeling the hefty weight of the parcel I tore into it to discover the first 12 books in the Anita series! He had picked them up for me because of how much fun I had not only reading the first, but chatting about it too. What a sweetheart he was. ♥

20080602 The next occasion was just this week, when I walked into our rec-room and spotted a giant pile of paper bags, about the size of the ones from the local comic book store, lying on the coffee table. First thought that came to mind was “oh no he found another comic series to collect” but nope he walked in and told me to take a look. So I did. OMG!! I was happy dancing about like a crazy lady! For anyone whose seen my blog lately, I’ve been reading the Fables graphic novel series that my library carries – with the exception of Volume 5 – so of course I’ve been completely depressed that my reading came to a halt. But lovely hubs that he is, he managed to track down Volumes 1 to 10 by visiting all the comic books in our area. Dedicated he is.

And here is my favourite photo of the hubs and I – he looks very dashing, I think. However I look as though I may be suffering from TB or vampirism I’m so deathly pale :)

Those are sweet stories. And what a great photo! Where did you get a photo like that taken? I'd love to dress up in those kind of clothes and have my picture taken :)

Wow! I should forward this post to my husband :) He's very good to me, but he knows that I would track down any book I'm interested in ... I'm very hard to surprise.

Right-on Chris, during a weekend on the island we came across Grandpa's and couldn't resist! Next time I want to get a tavern shot with me, hubs, both our teen sons and the dogs!

Awww, that's such a sweet story! You and your husband are lucky to have each other!

That's a funny cartoon. I haven't read any from the Anita Blake series but I actually have the first four books for no apparent reason :)
