Review – Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom

hex appeal

Synopsis

Jazz and Nick’s dream romance has turned into a nightmare…
Feisty witch Jasmine Tremaine and drop-dead gorgeous vampire cop Nikolai Gregorovich have a hot thing going on, but it’s tough to keep it together when nightmare visions turn their passion into bickering, and it’s tearing them apart.
With a little help from their friends – a motley bunch of ghosts with attitude, rule breaking witches, supernatural hotties and sinister elves – Jazz and Nick are in a race against time to uncover whoever it is that’s poisoning their dreams and their relationship…

Review

Hex Appeal is a follow up to Linda Wisdom’s previous novel 50 Ways To Hex Your Lover, but it can be read independently with just as much enjoyment. And what a joy it was to read this. Hex Appeal is my favourite kind of paranormal read – one that has a great plot with loads of laughs along the way.

To get an idea of how much fun this book is take a look at the two main characters – Jazz and Nick – she’s a witch, a good one but nonetheless a witch. How about her love Nick? A sorcerer, a wizard or even a magician would be the expected norm. But no, he’s a vampire! How about that for an odd couple, they are the perfect twosome for the unusual. But now that they’ve come to terms with how they feel about one another and have decided to make a go of it, Jazz’s slippers get into some nasty trouble. Yeah, you read that right – slippers! – Fluff and Puff her awesomely cozy slippers have been accused of eating someone. This does appear to put a damper on their romance, but the honeymoon really comes to an end when both Jazz and Nick begin being plagued by nightmares a little too realistic to ignore. But stubborn and in love Jazz is determined to get to the bottom of things, along with her own slightly strange Scooby Gang.

Hex Appeal was a terrific read, no doubt about it. It was silly, mysterious, and romantic. The characters that Linda Wisdom has created are what really put the bang into this book. Jazz is the perfect heroine, she has the kind of straight up attitude that only the truly confident woman can pull off. She can be bitchy, but more in a humorous, good-natured way. Her snide remarks and asides are so witty and quick that you will be helpless but to laugh.

Nick, Jazz’s vampire-cop-boyfriend is another well done character. Admittedly he is a classic hunk of vamp-man, but he displays much more depth than most hotties in romantic fiction. He shows a human side as he deals with his own personal worries about the functionality of their relationship. His personality is the perfect match to Jazz’s, he doesn’t fall to her every whim but he also doesn’t bulldoze through her either.

But what really upped my enjoyment of Hex Appeal was the diverse paranormal world that Linda Wisdom has created. Along with the witches, vamps, weres, ghosts and other supernatural beings, there are many surprising and creative creatures. Puff and Fluff, Jazz’s slippers were so much fun, but then to find out her new stilettos, Croc and Delilah, have a mind of their own, well it’s better for you to read it yourself and find out.

Hex Appeal is one of my favourite paranormal reads so far this year, and I will definitely be checking out her previous novel 50 Ways To Hex Your Lover, while anxiously awaiting Wicked By Any Other Name. I highly recommend this book if you are in the mood for a fun-filled, quick-fluff and puffpaced read. Just watch out for the Rubber Ducks!

Thank you so much for loving Jazz and Nick! My publicist forwarded the review to me this morning.

It always warms an author's heart when her characters are enjoyed.
