Review

At first I believed that Warrior, book 2 of The Cat Star Chronicles, would be a paranormal fantasy. But it is actually more of a futuristic romance. Set in a small village, this story centres around Tisana. Descended from a long line of healer witches, she is on the lookout for her perfect mate, while fulfilling her duty to the villagers by offering her healing abilities. Leo, who comes from a planet of cat-like humans, is a badly injured slave whose delivered to Tisana to be nursed back to health. Leo’s owner, Rafe, Tisana’s ex, gives her one month to heal Leo and she quickly falls into bed with the sexy feline warrior. But before her month is up, Rafe returns with the announcement that his children have gone missing and he needs Leo and Tisana to help him find them. So begins an adventure that Tisana will use to try and ensure Leo’s release from slavery and his commitment to her.

Tisana is exactly the kind of character that makes adventure fantasies interesting to read. She is determined and set in her ways. She knows what she wants and will use every resource available to her to get it. Tisana was an especially intriguing character because along with her healing abilities she also has the talent of communicating with animals. On her journey she takes advantage of this talent to enlist the help of the many creatures she encounters. This adds a very funny and unusual twist to the story.

Leo, a warrior from a race called the Zetithians, he is a talented fighter, irresistible to women and blessed with feline beauty. He also has some unconventional but exceptionally pleasing sexual abilities. I didn’t find that there was enough development of his character, more in-depth information on his history may have exposed more his personality. Leo was, however, an adequate love interest for Tisana, and being that Tisana is the narrator of Warrior, this is not a major problem. Instead, we read much of Tisana’s own thoughts on Leo.

Warrior is book 2 of the Cat Star Chronicles, but it seems that it can be read as a stand-alone with just as much satisfaction. Overall I found the book an enjoyable read, with Tisana’s dialogue with the animals as a highlight. There are some heavily erotic scenes in this novel, so Warrior is perfect if you like your romance steamy-hot. This volume of the Cat Star Chronicles carried my interest enough that I will be reading the others in the series. Although I don’t feel I had missed anything by reading them out of order, apparently some characters from the first novel, Slave, do make an appearance in Warrior. Regardless of how you choose to read them, Warrior is an entertaining adventure-fantasy with romance and humour added to the mix.

I've seen this series around the blog-o-sphere. It sounds good.
Great review! I always like when the author adds a bit of humor to it.
