Tuesday Thingers – Library Cats

Tuesday Thingers

Today's question: LT Things- t-shirts, bags, cue cats- are you into the "stuff"? Do you use a cuecat to enter your books, or do you enter them manually? What do you think of the stuff?

cue catOf the nearly 2000 books I own, more than half are paperbacks or trade size. Once I had enough shelves for them all I wanted to unpack a lot that were in storage. Then the hubs suggested I make a spreadsheet of what we owned. After 2 days of struggling to type everything in, I found the LibraryThing website and immediately ordered a cue cat. I love it! So handy and quick. Another bonus is that after declawing the cuecat I discovered I can scan our movie and music collections too.

The CueCat would come in handy if you have lots of books, but I really don't have that many, so I didn't splurge.

I didn't have the patience to wait for a cue cat to come in the mail and so I spent my entire vacation the year I joined entering my books. I had a lot of fun and didn't mind at all. :-) It gave me an excuse to reorganize and re-shelve the books, that's for sure.

That is so cool. I was just looking at different barcode scanner and it cost $150. I think this is way better and cost efficient.

It's on the top of my Christmas list. :)

I did the same thing! Er, kinda: after trying to make my own spreadsheet I gave up and bought a perm account at LT, then went ahead and typed in ISBNs. If I had to do it again now I'd use a Cat; in fact, when I input my mom's collection I plan on using my newly-purchased CueCat! So it'll get some use after all.

(Love your blog, btw.)

I kind of want a cue cat just because of how cute it is.

Hmmmm. I haven't catalogued our music or movie collections yet, and I guess I really should. Maybe I'll be putting my Cue-cat back to work after all.

After reading your comment on my blog, I can see where that cuecat was indispensable! We both seem to have been tomboys, but while you wrecked your fingers, I wrecked my legs.

Cuecats can do movies and books!?!? I looked briefly at the "declawing" page when I got mine, but it looked way too technical for me - the insides of electronics scare me. Was it easy to do?
