Review – Motherbridge Of Love

This beautiful poem celebrates the bond between parent and child in a special way. Through the exchanges between a little Chinese girl and her mother, Motherbridge of Love offers a poignant and inspiring message to parents and children all over the world.
Text royalties from the sale of this Barefoot book will be donated to Mother Bridge of Love, a charity that reaches out to Chinese children all over the world in order to develop a connection between China and the West, and between adoptive culture and birth culture.

Another type of book I don’t get to read often is the children’s picture book. But when I asked around for suggestions of a good book to read by an author with an ‘X’ last name, I received many recommendations for Xinran’s Motherbridge Of Love. I was extremely pleased to discover this book.

I’ve often wondered how adoptive parents decide how to explain to their children just how adoption works, and if I were in that situation this book is the way I would approach it. This is one of the most beautiful picture books I’ve seen, and it touches on this issue with gentle care. It is my opinion that any adopted child that experienced this book would feel cherished and loved.

The simple words, along with gorgeous illustrations are sure to encourage children to think well and lovingly, not only of the family that raises them, but also the parents who gave them life. Motherbridge Of Love is not only a poetic story book, but also a way to make a child avoid feeling unwanted and instead feel proud of their heritage.

I thought this was an incredibly touching tribute to all the adoptive parents and children around the world. Regardless of the situation in which the child was born into, all children should be made to feel treasured and this book should do just that.
