TSS: On Things That Run Astray…

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekend – or if you’re in Atlantic Canada like me, maybe you’ve been enjoying a wonderful March (Spring) Break! Normally our March Break plans include a trip of some sort – the hubs likes to take the boys to see the hockey games in Montreal, or sometimes we just pack up the car and drive with no destination in mind, just to get away, relax, not have to worry about the everyday things. Not this year though, with the boys getting older it seems like planning holidays is going to become more complicated. My youngest wanted to spend the week hanging out with friends, my oldest went on his first *gasp* date, and the hubs, well he’s been in bed all week recovering from a step-back in an ongoing back injury – he hurt his back about 15 years ago playing high school rugby and after 10 years of work in new home construction his back isn’t as strong as it should be, but he’s a very fitness minded guy so that helps a lot with managing these occasional set-backs. So what did I do this week? Along with my regular job at the bookstore, I also played nurse-maid, taxi driver and yeah okay I relaxed a bit too :) Oh and I started putting together my university application package for the Fall – weee so exciting to think I will be back to school after the summer!

But with all that was going on these past few days, of course there were things that got overlooked. The most important thing, that made me so sad was realizing that the packages for my giveaway of The Book Of Negroes, somehow got left in the trunk of my car when I went to the post office :( So sorry guys, but I will be mailing them out as soon as I get off work Monday afternoon. And on a related note, one of the winners, Alyce contacted me to let me know she had already won a copy in another giveaway – lucky girl! And she said for me to go ahead and draw another winner – what a sweet lady! And after consulting Random.org, the new winner is Jeanne of Dog Ear Diary – whom I’m sending an email to asap. Congrats Jeanne and thanks again to Alyce for being so thoughtful. Teddy Rose & John Mutford, I apologize again for my forgetfulness and you should have your books soon.

The other thing that got away from me was my reviews, I started out 2009 with a goal of keeping my reading and reviewing pretty equal – but obviously that’s not working so far – so now I move on to Plan B – no more new books until reviews are caught up on! Yup I’m banning myself, except from the library – I’m putting my foot down, but c’mon what is life without the library ;)

It’s not that I have any problems with writing the reviews, I’m just lazy. And Twitter, WoW, Facebook and all that other crap are no help either – lol! Anyways, I’m going to list the books here that are waiting patiently in my drafts folder – oh and hey if you wanna help out I’ve got an idea! Well actually I’m stealing it from one of the Weekly Geeks assignments Dewey handed out awhile back. Here’s what I would love y’all to do – if there are any books in the list that you wanna know something about, just ask me in the comments or send me an email if you want. It can be a question about anything, the book, the author, the cover, why I read it in the first place, what my dogs do if I set the book in front of them etc. That would be such an awesome help to me, I want to write about books in a way that interests everyone – So what do you want to know?

Books I Need To Review
Click on covers for more information.

See, that there is 20 books – I’ve only read 50 so far this year – so according to my calculations (which was harder for me to figure out than the going tip rate) I’ve yet to review 40% of the books read so far this year. And that is pretty pathetic – so help me out by asking a question and consider it your good deed for the day :)

Finally one of the songs I listen to all the time, Weighty Ghost by Nova Scotian band Wintersleep

Whew! I wouldn't be able to enough about the older books to write a good review. I'm impressed that you can.

Holy cow that's a lot of books to review!! ;) I've got to do it a few days after I read the book, but it also helps that I only average about a book a week. Can't wait to hear what you thought of Fun Home.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets behind in reviews. For me it's mostly because I'd much rather read than write!
I have a rather generic question about all of your books: Which three would you most likely recommend to someone to read?
I don't know if that helps you out, but it's what I really want to know!

You made me feel a snort better, I'm only 12 books behind in my reviews. ;-) I've never come across anyone else who has read The Fat Woman Next Door Might Be Pregnant. I read it so long ago that I don't remember it at all (not a glowing recommendation, is it?) so remind me what it's about.

I'm trying SO hard just to make it into my 2009 reviews! Thanks to reviewing practically a book (or movie) a day for awhile I finally made it into December though!

I've heard interesting things about The Joy of Spooking series and Horns and Wrinkles so I'm looking forward to your reviews on those. I do have a question about Paper Towns though, is it true that the less you know about it the better you'll enjoy it? I won the book but haven't started it yet and I don't know that much about it either...

Good God. You've read 50 books already THIS year?? Sheesh. I barely read that all last year!!

I'm actually kind of curious about Sister Wife (weird, I know. Especially considering the books you have in your list!) But I've been watching Big Love on HBO, and I have to say I'm intrigued by it all.

TWENTY books to review. FIFTY books already read.

Wow! You made me feel totally lame for thinking that the three books that I have to review are a lot. Happy reading! And reviewing ;)

have fun reviewing.
my question is:
About the book Horns and Wrinkles. What made you read this book? Would you recommend it?

I like the song you posted :)

Yay, Wintersleep! I don't like them quite as much as I used to, but I know some of the guys in the band. Two of the members are from my hometown, well, actually I think it is only one now. :) I do like this song, though.

I suck at reviewing books, so I know where you are coming from there! I start off the year good and then get so far behind that I either can hardly remember the book or I just am not interested in writing the review.

I'm bad at asking specific questions, especially when I haven't read the book, but here goes nothing:

The Misfits: Tell me all about it! Sorry, I don't know what to ask, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it :P

Fun Home: What did you think of all the literary allusions?

Paper Towns: Where would you place it in your personal John Green scale? And why?

I have no unwritten reviews! So whenever I want to post a review, I have to read a book. Looking forward to your reviews!! Especially of Joy of Spooking.

I'm with those who admire you having read 50 books so far! I thought I was doing good at 20! lol Ok, so questions:

1.Of the 20 books waiting to be reviewed, which book was your favourite?

2.Are there any characters that linger in your mind?

3.Is The Darcys and the Bingleys worth reading (speaking as a Jane Austen fan)?

Is Peculia and the Groon Grove Vampires for children/teens, or adults? Is it a graphic novel or book? Is it as good, creepy, spooky, as the cover hints?

Dear Ms. Zombie,

Under the authority of the Book Blog Review Completion Committee, based on your stellar review record heretofore, I hereby grant you permission not to review four (4) of those twenty (20) books.

Congratulations on a blog well done.

Have you seen the film *The Reader*? How does it compare to the book?

And I agree with not-so-Anonymous ... take a pass on 4-5 of the reviews. Or write really short (like what you'd tell someone who asked about it at the bookstore) reviews.

congrats/good luck!

Yeah, pick some you don't have as much to say about and do a post of mini-reviews.
