The Sunday Salon - Challenged by Challenges

I've decided to take part in The Genre Challenge which begins November 1st. It looks like a terrific way to expand beyond my normal reading genres and try out some new stuff. All the details are below, with a link to the site where you can join!

Genre Challengegenre challenge

Hosted by Bookworms and Tea Lovers

The goal:
To read one book in the following genres: crime fiction, detective fiction, mystery fiction, horror fiction, thriller fiction, romance fiction, science fiction, action/adventure fiction, fantasy fiction, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and western fiction. Specific definitions of these genres can be found in this post.

There are three options:
A: Read 10 books, drop genre you read most and one of your choice
B: Read 11 books, drop the genre you read the most
C: Read 12 books

The rules:
-You may not read more than 1 book per genre.
-All books must be read within the challenge period.
-No crossovers within challenge, each genre has a separate book.
-Crossovers with other challenges are allowed.
-Audio books are allowed, graphic novels are not.
-You may make a list of books, but that’s not mandatory and you can change your picks at any time before or during the challenge.

A~ZReadingChallenge

My A-Z Reading challenge is going pretty smoothly, although I really need to get my TBRs organized since I have read quite a few books that I've already covered letters for - lol.

I'm officially half done this challenge with 26 books read of 52!

My Canadian Book Challenge Eh? progress is not so great so far. Again because I don't consider how a book fits into my challenges before I begin reading.

So of the 13 books needed to complete this challenge I've read 4!

ripthree200For the RIP III Challenge I chose to read 4 scary stories. Not doing so badly on this one, but I haven't read anything from my initial book list. Durrr...

Halfway done this one! I've read 2 of the 4 spooky stories!

lt 75

My first and biggest challenge of the year is complete! Wooot!

Over at LibraryThing, I had seen a 75 book challenge, and I had to join. At first I thought that the goal of reading 75 books in a year would be tough ... but I made it with lots of time to spare.

So far in 2008 I have read 82 books. But now that I reached my goal, I have decided to go for 100 - I don't think it will be that hard as I only need 18 more books within the next 3 and a half months.

Overall I don't think I'm doing too bad with my challenges, I just need to remember when I'm looking at my TBR mountain that I should consider which books will go towards a challenge and which ones won't.

Happy Sunday everyone! And if you have a second, tell me whether you are participating in any reading challenges this year. Any advice or hints you have for staying organized would be greatly, gigantically appreciated :)

I'm participating in more challenges than I should this year.I have a total of 12 going right now, yikes. I've just scared myself by counting.

To stay organized, I created a challenges tab on my blog where I keep track of everything. I love the feeling of crossing a book out of a list. Also, to make sure my challenges don't begin to feel like burdens, I make sure to always leave room for a few whim reads each month. That's it, really...not exactly groundbreaking tips, I know :P

I saw Genre Challenge and if I wasn't so maxed with challenges, I'd do it too. Same with RIP. Hopefully they will have it again next time and I'll sign up.

You are doing great with yours!

I love watching all these challenges. I read too spontaneously to participate in many of them, but it's fun to see others' progress.

I joined too many challenges this year, the latest being the RIP challenge. I shouldn't be giving any advice because I'm so far behind on some of my challenges. I did notice I did best when I looked ahead at upcoming releases and added the ones that I knew I would want to read anyway to the challenge list.

Last year I was so good about keeping up with my challenges and this year--not so much. I was bitten by the ARC bug this year and those have been taking most of my time and attention. I used my vacation this year to do some challenge reading.

It looks like you are doing great with your challenges. Good luck with the genre challenge. It looks like it will be fun.

Nymeth - thanks for the tips, I agree crossing off a book is a great feeling.

Naida - I chose some easy but great ones to start out, I checked out the Lost Challenge on your blog but that would be pushing my luck :)

J. Kaye - Yes the RIP one is great for this time of year, and I love scary stories.

Terri - Thats how I became interested in challlenges was by following others progress, it is very fun!

gautami - you chose a great challenge to do, although my opinion may be biased :)

Icedream - that's a good idea, I had also thought of using post-its on my TBR so I knew beforehand if the book would help me.

Literary Feline - I am getting lots of ARCs too so I'm trying to balance that out too :)
