Now moving over to the Harpercollins blog/newsletter The Savvy Reader, you can find out about the Summer Is Short, Read A Story reading challenge. Basically all you have to do is read two books collections. Which is easy-peasy. But I know I’ll be reading more than that, since short story collections have always been something I enjoy.
I chose 4 books from the recommended list that I thought looked perfect for the summer - My Mistress's Sparrow is Dead edited by Jeffrey Eugenides, Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman, Wild Nights by Joyce Carol Oates and Ugly Man by Dennis Cooper.

But the following classic short collections were what made my inner biblioholic drool like a madman. Are these not the most gorgeous book covers you’ve ever seen? I’m a sucker for matching sets!

So what do you think about the Summer Is Short, Read A Story program? How do you feel about short stories in general? Do you have any plans to read any this summer while relaxing, on vacation, or even just during those small 10 minute breaks at work?

Hmmm, I might have to join in the challenge, since I already have Fragile Things.

I went through a short story phase in college where that was all I read (besides assigned reading). I could definitely fit in two collections this summer.
Those are cool covers. You're right! they're like candy to us book-lovers, aren't they? I don't know about the challenge, though I do plan on reading some short stories anyway this summer!

I don't know if I am going to join another challenge but I am intrigued with the idea of reading more short stories. I own some great short story collections that I haven't gotten around to reading yet.

I feel that stick that you're trying to jab into my side, but I'm going to ignore it. :P I DO like short stories, but I'm always so frantic trying to get that next book read that I don't make time for them. I saw at the beginning of the year where someone decided every 300 pages of short stories they read would count as one novel...maybe I should do something like that.
And yes, those covers are awesome! I don't like Melville's short stories, have only read a handful of Cather's and haven't read any of the others, but I know who they are at least! :P Ok, enough rambling...
