While reading The Time Travellers Wife I often found myself thinking of the song Mad World by Gary Jules. I first heard this when watching my all-time favourite movie Donnie Darko (also time travel related)
Just recently I discovered John Green, Looking For Alaska really blew me away. Which prompted me to listen to The Verve Pipe’s Freshman over and over again (much to the hubs dismay, he thought that infatuation of mine was over)
The Cranberries – I think I could connect one of their songs to nearly every important event in my life. But very rarely do their songs come to mind while reading. During The Book Thief however I kept hearing lines from Zombie.
So what about you? Are there any particular books you’ve read that bring a certain song to mind? Have you ever found yourself remembering a book or character when a song plays? This is something I know I will be paying more attention to in the future.

interesting topic. I never really thought about that before. Certain songs do remind of of certain people and times in my life though.
Great song picks. I like the Cranberries, but the video says 'no longer available'.
enjoy your Sunday :)

ANOTHER DONNIE DARKO FAN!!!!!! Kindred! LOL I love that movie so much, and Mad World is a great song. As is Zombie. I'll have to pay closer attention to see if books ever bring songs to mind.
Hmmm...can't say that I hear music when I read, but I am a Donnie Darko fan. Loved that movie.
Very interesting subject. Can't say I remember songs when I read. But I do when I write. You've given me something to think about though.
I love Donnie Darko and Mad World!
Hmm, Time is Running Out by Muse reminded me of Twilight. This was before I had found Stephenie Meyer's website and soundtrack for the book. Weird, huh? :)
I love Mad World and Donnie Darko too!
I've been listening to Graveyard by Tori Amos a lot lately because of The Graveyard Book. And earlier in the week I listened to her song Jamaica Inn a lot because of Jamaica Inn the book :P In that case the mood of the song, all sunny, and the mood of the book couldn't be more different. But the lyrics fit the story somewhat. So yeah, the books I read last week resulted on a huge Tori Amos kick :P
Ooooh, I hadn't heard that version of Freshman before _ it's beautiful!
I don't usually make such connections, however, when I read Helter Skelter a couple of years ago, the U2 version of that song lodged in my brain for a week.!
Books always remind me of other books, and songs always remind me of certain moments in my life, but I can't think of a book that brought a song to mind. Interesting. I'll have to pay attention if this every happens to me in the future.
Whoa, I think I just got a big crush on you. Two of my favorite books mentioned! One of my favorite songs youtubed! One of my favorite movies mentioned! What a happy-making entry.
I can't count. Make that THREE favorite books.
